Denver Youth Program: Fundraiser
The Denver Youth Program is holding a Gala to raise money for the Partners and GRASP programs. These local, non-profit programs focus on youth mentoring, gang diversion, career training, group support, and violence interventions. The goal is to help correct decades of societal indifference and segregation in our community and increase opportunities for youth to experience success in all aspects of their lives.
The theme is "Roaring 20s", harkening to the an era when the neighborhood was budding with a vibrant black culture despite the restrictive housing policies that left it as one of the few neighborhoods where black Denver residents could live. But the gala is also an opportunity to celebrate progress and invest in a brighter future from the 2020s onward.
Attendees are encouraged to dress for the theme — wearing flapper dresses, tweed or pinstripe suits — or wear cocktail attire. The event will include 20s era music, hors d’ourves, beverages, and silent and live auctions.
MAS: Quinn DeVeaux

Drawing from his roots in the church choir, Indiana-born Quinn DeVeaux is the originator of blue beat soul, a rapturous blend of early blues, old-school country, and soul.
DeVeaux’s songwriting is uplifting and healing with a focus on modern storytelling. Channeling artists such as Sam Cooke, Bill Withers, Otis Redding, Ray Charles, and Leon Bridges, Quinn weaves a rich tapestry of sound that evokes and pays homage to his forebears all while keeping his finger on the contemporary pulse.
“Every so often something comes across my desk that not only causes me to pick my jaw off the floor, but reminds why I began this effort. [Quinn] is one of those rare artists that reminds us that the essence of human soul is alive and well and living, in its most visceral form, in new independent music” - Music Zeitgeist.
ARTIBUS: The Bluebird
Theatre Artibus presents The Bluebird
Original music by avant-garde duo Homospouses (Lika Shubitidze and Archil Gegechkori).
March 22 to April 7, 2024
Take flight with The Bluebird, a bittersweet journey of dreams and dreamers which invites audiences to engage with themes of identity, exclusion, and resilience. The production is inspired by Charles Bukowski's evocative poem The Bluebird, Basishvili's own immigration story, and the experiences of countless others who have left their homes for other lands.
Buba Basishvili, from the Republic of Georgia, was a lead performer and teacher at the Georgian State Pantomime Theater for over 15 years. Homespouses (Lika Shubitidze and Archil Gegechkori), real-life spouses with roots in Georgia and Colorado, create avant-garde baroque-pop compositions. The collaboration between Buba Basishvili and Homospouses is a testament to the power of artistic synergy and shared cultural heritage.
In 2008, Russia invaded the sovereign nation of Georgia and continues to occupy 20 percent of its territory. This turbulent history adds layers of depth and significance to The Bluebird, as it explores themes of resilience and the quest for freedom from oppression.

Weaving pantomime, visual metaphor and physical comedy, The Bluebird transcends linguistic barriers to deliver a poignant yet whimsical narrative of the immigrant experience through the universal language of the body.

ARTIBUS: The Bluebird (preview)
Theatre Artibus presents The Bluebird
A wordless theater performance created by Artibus co-founder Buba Basishvili
Original music by avant-garde duo Homospouses (Lika Shubitidze and Archil Gegechkori).
March 22 to April 7, 2024
Weaving pantomime, visual metaphor and physical comedy, The Bluebird transcends linguistic barriers to deliver a poignant yet whimsical narrative of the immigrant experience through the universal language of the body.
Inspired by Buba Basishvili's own immigration journey and countless others’ stories, and Bukowski's evocative poem "The Bluebird," the production poses questions about the significance of hope in a world where dreams often feel unattainable. By intertwining their narratives of immigration, yearning, and creative expression, the artists have forged connections that transcend geographical boundaries and speak to the human experience.

MAS: Gabriel Royal
Music Appreciation Society presents: Gabriel Royal
Doors at 7pm ; Show at 8pm
All ages welcome.
Beer, wine & cocktails: 21+ with valid ID.
Performing in Denver for the first time is Brooklyn-based, Oklahoma-born, singer, songwriter, pianist, and cellist, Gabriel Royal.
One of the few musicians combining cello and voice, Royal, down to his last dollar, began his career playing in the subway stations of New York City. Influenced by Stevie Wonder’s groove and Burt Bacharach's jazzy yet poppy sensitivities, Royal weaves sonic tales through a unique blend of jazz, classical, pop, and neo-soul. To every performance Royal brings infectious energy, humor, and vulnerability, enabling him to engage audiences in a way that only one who nurtures genuine connection with commuters can.
Royal’s 2016, self-titled debut earned him rave reviews for his soaring vocals, hum-along melodies, and lush arrangements. His sophomore release, Miss Once In A Blue Moon (2018), contemplating love and loss, triumph and failure, and the ups and downs of relationships, launched tours for him in Europe and the US. Since then, Royal has been featured on NPR Live Sessions from the Mountain Stage in West Virginia, performed at Monterey and Newport Jazz Festivals, and taken the stage at top New York venues including (Le) Poisson Rouge and The Blue Note Jazz Club.
Royal’s newest composition, Dust to Dirge is an original score created to accompany multi-media artwork, Earth Elegy by Ashanti Chaplin. Earth Elegy is an installation that was made in collaboration with Oklahoma community members and civic leaders as is comprised of video, aural, sculptural, and material impressions of the 13 historic Black towns in Oklahoma. “It’s a lyric-less song, like a Gregorian chant, meant to make you think and feel longing,” says Royal of his new music.

Sphere Ensemble is a 14 piece band made up of string players: violin, viola, cello, and bass. We prioritize music by composers that are often overlooked in classical music programs. For much of this music, we have to write our own version. We have a group of amazing arrangers who are also players in the group who help create the music we play. From classical to classic rock, from baroque to hip hop, Sphere always choses music that excites us. Come to a concert, hear more than you expected.

During its 2019 run on Broadway, “What The Constitution Means to Me” received a tidal wave of critical praise, two Tony Award nominations, and ultimately became a Pulitzer finalist. The New York Times hailed Schreck’s boundary-breaking show as “. . . not just the best play to open on Broadway so far this season but also the most important.”
In this smart and timely comedy, Schreck resurrects her 15-year-old self who traveled the country competing in American Legion speech competitions to save money for college. Unearthing her perspective on the Constitution then and now, she delves into four generations of women in her family and how the founding document shaped their lives. BETC is honored to premiere this NY Times ‘Critics’ Choice’ comedy in Denver and Boulder.
